To have your service opportunity posted, please email information about your agency and the service project(s) to community_service_learning@wvm.edu. Service opportunities will be read and evaluated on Wednesdays. Approved opportunities will be posted on Fridays.
In Fall 2000, West Valley College established a Community Service Learning (CSL) program with California’s Students for Success grant money. From 2000-2003, the CSL program provided referral services, coordinated on-campus volunteer fairs attended by 50-100 community agencies each year, assisted faculty with developing service learning activities, served as a liaison between the college and various community agencies, organized speakers’ forums, and coordinated an annual service project for the WVC campus community.
Unfortunately, when the 2003 state budget crisis hit, funds for the CSL program were also cut. However, CSL efforts survived due to faculty and student commitment to serving their communities. In 2006, a partnership between the CSL program and CalWORKS program was proposed, and in Spring 2007, this partnership was created. Resource binders are currently available in the Career Services center. We are currently updating our website (www.westvalley.edu/csl)to include information about service learning, WVC’s CSL program, our partnering agencies, and projects with our partnering agencies.
